Breaking News: Tobacco / Smoking

George Weissman, Leader at Philip Morris and Lincoln Center in NY, dies at age 90. When Phillip Morris acquired Miller Brewing in 1969 Mr Weissman was credited as coming up with the new Miller Lite brand. George Weissman,who was quoted as saying " Forty cigarettes a day, one or two beers and I also drink some wine" died as result of a fall.

Counterfeit Cigar ring is uncovered in Alabama that could be responsible for more than 3 million fake cigars a year in the U.S. The fake cigars were imported from China and India, repackaged with name brand labels , and distributed. The investigation was started by a consumer complaint to tobacco giant Swisher International about product quality.

Ecigarettesnational.com is defending its products by saying claims by FDA and other health organizations were intentionally misleading. The FDA  put out a news release last week concerning two brands made by manufacturers currently suing the FDA.

Even with rising tobacco taxes many have found that products to quit smoking are much more expensive. The cost to quit smoking may take your breath away.

Marietta, Georgia is considering the banning of smoking in all city parks. Earlier this month smoking was banned in Marietta Square's Glover Park. The Legislative Committee will consider expanding the ban to all 21 city parks.

U.S. tobacco companies are expected to address the higher tobacco tax's impact on second quarter earnings. The market should show an impact of the new federal taxes which went into effect in April.

The Pentagon assured troops that it won't ban tobacco products in war zones. Use of tobacco products is on a decline in the U.S., however smoking in the military is at an all time high. Stress is high in the military and a smoking ban will not benefit soldiers
